In 2017, Sarah and Josh purchased Angus-Simmental cattle to start a commercial grass fed beef herd. In that same season, they seeded an oat-pea cover-crop on the only 2 acres of sandy loam on their property. This small plot will eventually be an organic vegetable garden.
Their vision for the future is to create a vibrant homestead that produces healthful, 100% grass fed beef, and organic cabbage-the primary ingredient of their lacto-fermented sauerkraut.
Their overall goal for KZ Farm is to produce tasty, nutritious food for themselves and their community, while raising livestock and crops in a thoughtful manner that improves their soil base and prioritizes the health of their environment. They hope to leave this land more ecologically vibrant and agriculturally productive than when they arrived.
